Learning More About Theaters & Concert Halls
Date Added: December 09, 2008 06:21:56 AM

Entertainment venues can be indoors or outdoors depending on the type of performance that is being shown as well as the number of people watching it. Theaters can be as small as a room that can accommodate 50 people or as big as a football stadium. This is similar to concert halls and other venues for different performances or entertainment such as films, plays, musicals, opera, ballet, circus, and concerts, among many others.

Entertainment venues are important factors for the success of any performance. These can also affect the ambiance and the price of admission. The location of the entertainment venue plays a significant part to the type of entertainment or performance that can be shown. Most cities have cinema theaters, theaters for stage plays, opera, and ballet as well as concert halls while some have stadiums, arenas and coliseums. There are some performances that are shown in parks or make shift open areas usually in public places. Entertainment or performance per se can be provided by a group of people with several props or one individual using only facial expressions and body movements to amuse his audience.

Theaters are any structure where movies, stage plays, musicals, operas, ballets or any other form of performance can be shown to an audience. The first theater in history is the Greek’s theatron or seeing place which was a large, open-air structure usually built on the slopes of hills. The design of the theater evolved through time from the Elizabethan era theaters to the contemporary theaters we know of today. Designs for theaters do not follow a certain type of design but needs to have the basic elements which include the stage, offstage spaces or backstage, control room/space, lighting room/space, auditorium or audience seats, and lobby among others.

Concert halls, on the other hand, are similar to theaters but are especially structured for concerts of classical music. These also have a stage, seats for the audience and a lobby. However, the seats are usually fixed in place, the stage is larger than a regular stage because it needs to hold the whole orchestra, or there is an area especially constructed for the orchestra above or below the main or performance stage. Smaller concert halls which are also called recital halls, are constructed to accommodate just a few performers such as for chamber music performances or small concerts or recitals using the piano, guitar and other kinds of instruments.
